The winter season is finally here!
Given the current situation of the Covid 19 pandemic, events such as family gatherings, reunions, and holiday parties are restricted in some countries. Still, with the right procedures, this holiday season is an excellent opportunity to spend some time with our friends and families. This may be the time to sip some hot beverage on your balcony while watching the snowfall off the ground, but there should never be a time to let our health deteriorate.
Activities and happenings during this holiday season can be fun, but it can also be the reason that can negatively affect our health. With the cold weather combined with holiday activities, finding the motivation to stay healthy may be difficult. Working out is sacrificed for eating out, and that could be a problem.
Well, you also do not want to be a buzzkill, and not enjoy this wonderful time of the year. The Winter holiday comes once a year only, and everyone should be able to enjoy it without sacrificing your health. That’s why it is important to know how to stay healthy all year round, and why we should all take the precautionary methods we need to protect ourselves and have fun at the same time.
The cold weather can be discouraging for us to keep up with our workouts. You might fancy to stay under your blanket and enjoy the icy weather. But remember, being physically active can make you healthy, both physically and mentally. Don’t use the reason that it is cold outside to not workout. For say, instead of running outside, you can use a treadmill instead. If you do not have the equipment, do an indoor activity instead! Simply doing a bodyweight exercise such as push-up, sit-ups, and crunches would go a long way.
Keep in mind that you need to be physically active if you want to be healthy during this holiday. Just remember this, if you are going to eat a lot of foods this season, might as well use those calories to fuel your workouts.
But don’t go overboard! A holiday feast may be tempting but, you need to avoid over-eating as this may cause digestive comforts. Try to balance your food choices instead.
No matter what the season is, water is very essential for our health. It may be a good idea to have warm sweet cocoa, but it cannot beat water. Without water, our body cannot function properly; it can cause fatigue, dull skin, dry mouth, headaches, and dehydration. During this season where you are exposed to extreme temperatures, your body needs water more than ever. Always stay hydrated.
Remember that balance is the key. Try to drink water in every meal you have, limit your alcoholic and sugar-packed drinks to a minimum instead.
The holiday season can be very stressful – which is not how you want to spend this season. Do not worry too much if things did not go the way you want it. Instead, spend some quality time with your friends, with your families, and just sit back, relax and enjoy. Remember that stress can affect you, physically and mentally. If you happened to find yourself stressed out, and overwhelm, give yourself a break. Try to keep your stress in check by balancing your work, personal, and relaxation time.
Get enough sleep as well! You are going to spend some time with your loved ones, but do not spend it all and, forget to have enough sleep every night. Sleeping is an essential tool for managing stress, so do not underestimate the value of sleep.
Cold and flu are common during this season. Social gathering means hugs and kisses which can result in the transmission of germs and viruses. Germs can accumulate through nearly everything you touch, so always wash your hands thoroughly to avoid getting sick. Have your flu shots to avoid the flu and do not forget to drink your vitamins.
With the current situation of the Covid 19 pandemic, we need to be more careful than ever. Avoid too much contact if necessary, wash your hands thoroughly, and always wear your face mask.
