Ayurveda is an ancient art of healing that originated from India about 5000 years ago. It offers some of the best and natural way not only to take care of our hair but also for our entire body.


According to Ayurveda, our body is made of Dosha; they are believed to be one of the three substances that are present in the human body. They are:

  • Vata Dosha
  • Pitta Dosha
  • Kapha Dosha


The three Doshas needs to be in harmony for our body to function optimally. Everyone has their own balance of Doshas. Their unique ratio of Doshas will define their ayurvedic constitution, which is the blueprint to achieve optimal health.  


Our hair will react to a particular type of Dosha. That is why we need to know our Dosha type so we can use Ayurveda treatments accurately and deliver the desired effect. 


Vata Hair – Vata types are thin, straight hair with higher porosity. It is normal to dry with thin hair density, slightly rough and curly. If one person has an imbalance of Vata dosha, it may cause excessive dryness, dandruff, frizzy and brittle hair, hair thinning, and split ends.


Pitta Hair – Pitta types are slightly wavy with a medium hair density, strength, and length. The imbalance of Patta dosha in a person may lead to excess heat in the hair follicles, which damages the hair, may cause thinning and early greyish of the hair. 


Kapha Hair – Kapha types are thick, smooth, lustrous, well-hydrated, strong, and straight. Kapha Imbalance may lead to excess oil secretion that blocks the follicles of our scalp, which results in wet and sticky flakes.

Diet

We cannot stressed-out the importance of your diet to your health. A healthy diet will prevent hair loss and will improve the quality and quantity of your hair. End of story! You need to really look after what you eat if you want to have healthy and shiny hair.


Include plenty of vegetables, fruits, and herbs in your diet; they are packed in nutrients, vitamins, and minerals. When you are cooking your foods, include spices and herbs as it also provides a lot of health benefits. 


Here is a list of some of the food and herbs you may want to include in your diet:


Amla – Considered as a superfood in Ayurveda medicine, better known as Indian Gooseberry, this green berry contains a lot of nutrients and is considered as one the richest source of Vitamin C. Aside from providing your hair with a sleek and shiny look, it can also repair hair damage, thus giving you a healthy and beautiful hair. It is also perfect for all types of hair and has no negative side effects. 


Brahmi – This wonder herb is more popular for its calming power, stress reliever, and clearing the mind. But, it has also many health and hair benefits. Stress Management
