That is what spices do, enhance flavor and make food delicious. For sure, these are the uses, but Ayurveda takes it to a completely different level. Knowledge of spices contributes to maintaining balance and healing our bodies.

  • KAPHA DOSHA- domination of the earth and water element.


Each one of us should use spices according to their individual dosha constituent.


PREVENTION OF IMBALANCE:


We all have homeostasis. Modern medicine confirms this by making patients go through various blood tests. Checking hemoglobin, RBC’s count, etc., in Ayurveda, we understand this on the basis of increased dosha proportion. If any of the three doshas increases, we have symptoms.


For example: let’s go for pitta dosha. An increase in the fire element causes more heat, inflammation, acne fever, etc. for curing this, we need to keep our doshas in balance. With the help of certain spices like a fennel, coriander, turmeric, etc., one can balance it.


THERAPEUTIC USES OF SPICES:


  1. CINNAMON: lowers blood pressure, anti-diabetic effect, lowers cholesterol, lowers blood sugar.
  2. TURMERIC: anti-inflammatory property, antioxidant, immense research is still going on turmeric.
  3. HOLY BASIL: inhibit the growth range of bacteria yeast, reduce blood sugar level, treat anxiety, improve immune function.
  4. CAYENNE PEPPER: rich in capsaicin, reduce appetite, boost fat burning, anti-cancer potential.
  5. GINGER: prevent nausea, anti-inflammatory, reduce pain.
  6. PEPPERMINT: improves pain management in irritable bowel syndrome, helps in aromatherapy, fights nausea.
  7. SAGE: improve memory, helps in Alzheimer’s disease.
